New Year's Eve in Dubai 2027: Best Places & Events

In Downtown Dubai, thousands of people stand shoulder to shoulder with their phones raised, waiting for the tallest building in the world to light up during the New Year fireworks in Dubai 2027. Many of them arrive hours before midnight to secure their viewing spots. Afterwards, the roads around them can take a long while to clear.

Now picture the same New Year's Eve in Dubai a little differently. You are at a long table at Global Village, a countdown has just finished and a small crowd is cheering. Or you are on a yacht in Dubai Marina with people you love, the city glowing around you. Or you are high in the Hajar Mountains, welcoming 2027 under a sky full of stars.

All three are ways to celebrate New Year in Dubai 2027. Whether you are looking for the best places to celebrate New Year's Eve in Dubai, spectacular fireworks, a yacht party or a quieter escape from the crowds, this guide will help you choose the experience that suits you and plan your celebration.

The short version

  • The Burj Khalifa fireworks are the headline, but not the only show. Last year Dubai announced 48 fireworks displays across about 40 locations, so you do not need to be in Downtown to see something special.

  • Free viewing areas near the Burj Khalifa fill up early. If you want to go, plan to arrive hours before midnight.

  • Calmer alternatives exist. Global Village, a private yacht from Dubai Marina, Hatta and an overnight desert experience all offer a different kind of night.

  • The official 2026–27 programme has not been announced yet. What follows is based on last year's plan, so please check the details nearer the date.

  • Book early. New Year is peak season for hotels, transfers, activities and visas.

What New Year's Eve in Dubai feels like

Dubai celebrates New Year's Eve as a citywide event rather than a single show. From the iconic fireworks at Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai to celebrations across Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Bluewaters, Burj Al Arab, Expo City Dubai, Global Village, Atlantis The Palm and Hatta, the city offers multiple locations to welcome the New Year. Alongside spectacular fireworks, places like Dubai Frame, Global Village and JBR also feature drone displays, adding another dimension to the celebrations.

That variety is what makes celebrating New Year in Dubai so special. If you love crowds, spectacular views and lively countdowns, there is a place for you. If you would rather enjoy a meal, take in the skyline or have a quieter countdown away from the crowds, there is an experience for that too.

Burj Khalifa: what to expect

The Burj Khalifa show is the one most people picture when they think of New Year fireworks in Dubai. At midnight the tower is wrapped in lights, lasers and fireworks, with the Dubai Fountain and large LED screens across Downtown joining in.

It is beautiful, and it is also the busiest place in the city that night.

  • Free viewing areas. Popular spots typically include The Dubai Mall, Souk Al Bahar, Burj Park and the Dubai Canal area. These fill up quickly, so arrive early.

  • Roads close early. Last year, closures around Downtown began from 4 pm. Plan how you will get home before you go, and expect a long walk.

  • Stay close if you can. A hotel within walking distance means you can leave when you want. See our guide to where to stay in Dubai.

If this is your dream for the night, it is worth the effort. If the crowds sound like too much, read on.

Three calmer ways to welcome the New Year in Dubai

1. Global Village: a countdown for every time zone

If you like atmosphere without squeezing into a crowd, Global Village is a gentle place to be. Last year it ran seven countdowns in one night, matching the time zones of different countries, each followed by fireworks, with drone shows too. That means you can celebrate in a relaxed way, with food, shopping and entertainment around you.

It suits families, groups of friends and anyone who wants to enjoy the evening rather than just watch one moment. Season 31 runs from 14 October 2026 to May 2027. For dates, opening hours and how to get there, read our full Global Village guide.

2. A private yacht at Dubai Marina: your own corner of the night

If you want something more private, welcome the New Year from the water. A yacht gives you space for your own group, your own music and a moving view of the skyline, with fireworks displays along the coast, including around Bluewaters and Palm Jumeirah.

It works well for families, couples, friends and small celebrations. Boats are limited and New Year's Eve is their busiest night, so reserve early.

3. Hatta: mountains, stars and a slower pace

If the idea of leaving the city appeals to you, Hatta offers something different. It is set in the Hajar Mountains, with open sky, cooler air and fireworks in a mountain setting instead of among skyscrapers. It is a good choice for campers, nature lovers and anyone who wants to start the year somewhere quiet.

Hatta is a drive of well over an hour from central Dubai, and longer on New Year's Eve traffic, so arrange your transport in advance. Our Dubai airport and private transfers guide may help.

  • Expo City Dubai. A relaxed, family-friendly evening.

  • Atlantis The Palm and Palm Jumeirah. Large fireworks visible along the beaches and the boardwalk.

  • An overnight desert safari. For a New Year under the stars, with dinner and entertainment in the dunes. Explore our desert safari options.

  • Dubai Mall and the Dubai Fountain. A free, easy way to feel the atmosphere before midnight.

New Year's Day in Dubai

One of the nicest things about the new year in Dubai is what happens the next day. 1 January is an official public holiday in the UAE, so many people enjoy a slow start. Beaches, long brunches and unhurried walks are popular. Global Village stays open through its season, though its hours may change on the holiday. Check timings for anywhere you plan to visit.

Planning your New Year holiday in Dubai

Hotels. New Year is one of the busiest weeks of the year, so book early. Choose your area by where you want to be at midnight. See our Dubai hotels guide or browse hotels on Kite Star Tourism.

Transfers. Road closures and heavy traffic mean it helps to arrange transport ahead. Book a private transfer.

Visa. If you are travelling from abroad, apply for your visa well before you fly and do not leave it to the last week of December. Peak season can add time. Read about Dubai visa processing times, If you are applying for the first time, start with how to apply for a Dubai tourist visa, or apply for a visa with Kite Star Tourism.

Health, weather and safety. Winter is the most comfortable season in Dubai, but the nights can be cool, especially in the desert and mountains, so bring a light layer. Follow local guidance, keep your phone charged and agree a meeting point with your group.
